Bangkok

Been soooo busy over the last few weeks I haven’t had time to post anything on the blog, also mum and a few of her friends have come over for a visit so this has been taking up what little time I have had to spare.  Mum arrived in Bangkok last weekend and me and tack went down to meet her. We spent a couple of days shopping but also paid a visit to the Grand Palace which I hadn’t visited since my first trip to Thailand 12 years ago. It was good to get away from Chiang Mai for a few days.

As there were seven of us and Tack and me were footing the bill we took the sleeper train from Chiang Mai to Bangkok As we were in no hurry to get to Hua Hin this was a great way to travel and we all managed a fairly good night’s sleep. As we had little Pinky with us we took the first class sleeper as the private cabin with sink was more convenient with nappy changes and the like, also Pinky had a little bit of private space to play in and she could make as much noise as she wanted without disturbing the other passengers.

Bangkok

Last week I was in Bangkok for a couple of days. My mum was flying in from England so I went down to meet her. With the airport closed my flight was canceled so I took the overnight sleeper train from Chiang Mai. I have done this trip countless times  and still think its great way to get to Bangkok or vice versa despite the 13 hour trip. Managed to get a few hours of good sleep and arrived in Bangkok reasonably fresh.

On my numerous trips to Bangkok I have done pretty much all the usual tourist things and sights but it had been a long time sine I visited some of the popular sights so I decided to spend a day as a tourist. Done a bit of shopping at MBK, rode the sky train and express boat on the Chao Prayer, stopped off at Wat Po and Wat Arun and managed to get a couple of beers in on Khao San Rd. As it had been 10 years since my last visit to The Grand Palace I also wanted to go there  but the time ran out on me.

Anyway with the PADs grip on the airport it looked increasingly likely that my mum will not be arriving in Bangkok on the 2nd as scheduled and in fact the day before her due arrival China Airlines confirmed they will be rerouting the flight direct to Chiang Mai. Next morning I jumped on the bus for the 10 hour trip up to Chiang Mai.
